Q: Is King of the Greens insured?
A: Yes. King of the Greens is fully insured and carries workman's compensation insurance.
Q: How do we join a program with King of the Greens?
A: Give us a call! One of our knowledgeable office staff will talk with you to discuss options and what your particular needs are. Once we establish an idea of the direction you'd like to go in, we'll type up all of the info on an estimate information sheet and one of our estimators will evaluate your property. The same estimator writes your proposal so there is no confusion and we are sure to accurately price your work by the analysis at your property. We will then send you your written estimate with options. Should you have any questions upon receiving your estimate, give us a call and we can help you out.
Q: Who supervises the crews?
A: There is a King of the Greens Foreman on every crew, overseeing all jobs, ensuring work is done accurately and beyond your highest expectations.
Q: Do you accept credit cards?
A: Yes! We accept Mastercard, Visa and Discover for our services we offer.
Q: When is the best time to water my lawn?
A: During the warmer months it is best to water your lawn early in the morning and again in the early evening. This will allow the roots to absorb the water before it dries up in the hot sun.
Q: We just had King of the Greens install new trees and shrubs. When should they be watered?
A: There is nothing more important than properly watering your newly planted trees and shrubs. Water establishes a good root system while reducing stress caused by transplantation. It is essential to water twice a day for the first three weeks. The best times to water are in the early morning and in the early evening. This will allow your trees and shrubs to absorb the water before the sun gets too hot mid day and before evening moisture can cause fungus to grow.
Q: Is my turf irrigation system enough to water my shrubs?
A: Irrigation systems for your lawn are designed to water the top two inches of soil, not reaching deep enough to impact the roots of your trees and shrubs. Sprinkler heads and time adjustments can be made to adequately water your trees and shrubs or you can add drip irrigation specifically for your shrubs and plants. Mulching around your vegetation will also help cool the soil and keep it moist.
Q: I am on a fertilizer program which includes a weed control application. Why do I still have weeds?
A: Weed control will significantly cut down on weeds, however, you have to understand that to stop weeds entirely is an ecological impossibility. The best we can hope for is to keep them contained to a minimum. We always tell customers who have used weed control to look at their amount of weeds versus a neighbor's who isn't on a fertilizer program, you will be sure to notice the difference!
Q: Do you warranty shrubbery, trees and plantings?
A: We will warranty any shrub, tree or planting that we've installed up to 90 days after installation. We stand behind our work and when adequately cared for, your shrubbery, trees and plantings will continue to grow and mature for years to come.
Q: How are we billed?
A: Billing depends on your scope of work. If you are on a maintenance program, you are billed monthly for services completed versus if you are having a one time service, you will be billed at the job's completion. Doing a large scale project? Payments are then made in stages. If your job is estimated between $2,000.00–$10,000.00, a 50% deposit is required before work begins. At the completion of the job, the remaining 50% is due. If your job is estimated over $10,000.00 a 1/3 deposit is required before work begins, a second 1/3 is due approximately half way through your project and the remaining 1/3 is due upon completion of the job.
Q: I requested a weed control application for my planting beds. Why do I still have weeds?
A: Weed control will significantly cut down on weeds, however, it is important to understand that to stop weeds entirely is an ecological impossibility. Weed control helps to keep weeds to a minimum. We always tell customers who have used weed control to compare their amount of weeds versus a neighbor's amount of weeds who didn't receive a weed control application. You will be sure to notice the difference!
Q: I want my yard re-landscaped. What is your process for making my yard functional as well as beautiful?
A: First, we schedule a time to meet to discuss your project. During our consultation, we will go over what it is that you want and don't want from your landscape. If a design is needed, we will come back to take measurements and draw out your design. Within 5-7 business days, we will present you with a proposal and design concept for you to review.
Q: I accept your proposal, what is our next step?
A: Once a proposal is accepted, both the client and company representative will sign a contract outlining the terms of work as well as the project details.
Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: We accept cash, check and most major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express).
Q: Are you insured?
A: Yes, we carry full liability and worker's compensation coverage and would be happy to provide you with a certificate of insurance.

A: Yes. That is a key facet to our company. Since we are a family-run business, we pride ourselves on personal attention to each project we undertake.

Q: Is Grantlin Landscapes, inc. considered a green company?
A: We do strive to use as many all natural and organic products as we can and limit chemical usage.
Q: What is your area do you service?
A: Because of our business model we can provide our clients' the most service for their investment. As a result of this we have chosen to only service certain parts of Carteret, Craven, Pitt & Onslow County. Contact us to find out if you're in our service area, that doesn't mean you won't be in the future. Our business is continually growing.
Q: How much does it cost to cut my lawn?
A: There is much to consider when determining how much to charge for lawn service. The square footage of the turf, the amount of edging, the number of obstacles in the yard; if toys need to be picked up, if bagging is required. Contact Us to set up an appointment for an estimate.
Q: Will you bag our clippings?
A: Generally we do not bag lawn clippings. It has been proven that by mulching clippings back into the lawn will put back 10% of the nutrients that mowing removes from the turf. However bagging may be performed if turf is to high or thick to mulch clippings, or if client requests clippings to be mulch. Please note that we charge an additional $2.00 per bag used if bagging is performed.
Q: How short do you cut grass?
A: It depends on the type of grass and the time of year. Warm season grass (Bermuda, Zoysia, St. Augustine) is generally cut between 1.5 and 2 inches during the months of April through November. Cool season grass is cut between 2.5 and 3 inches during the spring and fall months and between 3 and 3.5 during the summer months. Due to the nature of cool season grass we normally won't cut it any shorter than 3 inches in the summer due to the heat stressing the leaf blades. (...please add centipede grass in the list of other grasses.)
Q: Will you cut my lawn on the day I choose?
A: Only if the day you choose coincides with the day we have scheduled in your area. Schedules are set to maximize worker productivity and performance. Due to this, we are in certain areas on specific days of the week. This is only altered if weather or other unforeseen events prevent us from performing the work on the scheduled day. We never work on Sunday. That being said, we do try to work with our clients during special events (parties, rehearsal dinners etc.) and will do our best to accommodate their request on a case by case basis.
Q: Do I have to sign a contract for you to mow my lawn?
A: We have signed agreements with all of our clients. The terms range from "As Needed" (meaning you call us when you want the service) to two years. We feel it is important for there to be a common understanding between our clients and us about the expectations of our arrangement; and the easiest way to do this is by having a written agreement. We never encourage new clients to sign up for more than one year and always allow the first thirty days of the agreement to discontinue without penalty.
Q: Do you offer discounts for military or senior citizens?
A: Certain times of the year we may offer special discounts to specific groups or offer special incentives for certain services. To find out what discounts we are currently offering visit our Specials page.
Q: What makes this company different than any other lawn company?
A: Training, Service, Dependability, and Consistency.
- All of our team members have a minimum of 2 hours classroom and 2 hours hands on training before ever being sent to their first job. They are then under the supervision of an experienced crew leader for two weeks before being left to perform services independently and are required to attend monthly training classes to further their knowledge of our industry.
- Because of our training, our team members perform all services the same way, eliminating inconsistencies during services. We take pride in providing customer service and client satisfaction that goes beyond our clients' expectations. To ensure continued client satisfaction we send out quarterly surveys to track the quality of our team members' work and make the changes necessary to meet our clients' expectations.
- We use the latest technology in our industry for routing and scheduling jobs which ensures us to provide quality service on a consistent basis as well as keeping prices down clients'; giving them the most value for their investment.
Q: Can you match a competitor's quote?
A: Quite often we can if the quotes and specifications are comparable apples to apples'. Often a large disparity in pricing from one company to another can be due to a number of factors, some of which are not readily visible. Factors being the level of prep work to be provided or the care you are to receive during and after the project. Be weary of low bids as short cuts are usually made, poor quality plant material is used, along with inferior workmanship and little to no soil amendments. You should always check licensing and qualifications as well as comparable references, at a minimum. The term "you get what you pay for" holds true in the landscaping/service industry.
Q: How often are you available to do parking lot cleaning?
A: We are available every night of the year except Holidays. We can sweep quarterly, monthly, weekly, and nightly; and any schedule you prefer.
Q: What are the benefits of investing in a cleaner parking lot?
A: A great first impression can make all the difference in the world. Cleanliness speaks volumes to your customers- not just inside your facility but outside as well. When your property is clean and well cared for, your customers will feel more comfortable about visiting your facility.
Q: When is the best time to seed?
A: Early fall is the very best time to seed your lawn. Spring can also be a good time to seed if you are able to make sure the tender, newly germinated seed is adequately watered during the extremely harsh conditions that exist during the summer.
